The last newsletter discussed the fact that “Top Performers” are winners and it is their skill that set them apart from others.  A key skill that “Top Performers” have is leadership.  While leadership is hard to define as it means different things to different people, leadership related to the sales process can take the form of having the courage to do what is necessary to succeed.  That is, to Win.

Sales people love to win and in sales we can easily measure when we win and to the extent that we win.  We measure success with Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and CRM and Quote Logs and Order Logs and Commission.  When we measure our actions and keep track of our actions over time, we can see progress or lack of progress.  We can chart trends and measure good and bad results that we can use to define when we are winning.  We can compare results between team members and overall for the company.  Amazingly, when we do these things, we find winners and many times these winners are “Top Performers”.  Typically, we also find that these winners are our leaders and are the ones that others on the team look up to and are key components to the culture of the team and the company.

Why is winning so important? 

Because when we win, we succeed and we do better, and we learn, and we grow and those around us benefit.  This can drive others to want to do better and be better and when we can, we build a great team.  We can have a team of winners and leaders.

This team of winners can drive the culture to be better than any other team doing the same thing and that is what separates companies and the solutions they bring to the table.  A team of leaders that know how to win and create their own destiny is a great thing.  We can take this attitude and get up every day and “play the game” to win.

“A Habit” is not work, but just a thing that is done every day and being a leader is critical to your success in sales and can easily become a Habit.

TIME MANAGEMENT.  For Top Performers every task is planned and focused on the goals that earn the results.  Top Performers plan and then engage.  They act on their plans, they work hard and they get results.
