Continuing with the twelve Organizational Skills let’s look at Habit #12 – Paperwork is a Pain!

Update expense reports daily and submit expense reports weekly.

Paperwork is a pain, particularly call reports and expense reports. So when is the best time to do them? The answer is immediately.

Do not, under any circumstances, wait to do your expense report until you are back in the office. This is a waste of your time and it shows a complete lack of professionalism. The expense report should be done immediately after the expense is incurred. If this is not possible, then an expense report should be done every day for the expenses incurred during that day.

Many years of experience have shown that very few people actually keep their expense reports current. With the exception of a few, the Top Performing 5%, generally salespeople wait until the very last minute to do their expense reports. It is difficult to understand. Paperwork is a pain, but you have to stay on top of it and be current to be viewed as professional.

Enough said.

“A Habit” is not work, but just a thing that is done every day and updating call reports and expense reports daily and submitting expense reports weekly can easily become a Habit. Develop the process, complete the reports and submit them.
